Ontario Medical Association warns about vaccine hesitancy

Some distrust the COVID-19 vaccine because of how quickly it was developed and produced, according to the Ontario Medical Association.

The Ontario Medical Association issued a warning Wednesday about vaccine hesitancy even as the COVID vaccine supply is being held up by manufacturing issues.

Dr. Upton Allen, the head of the Division of Infectious Diseases at SickKids Hospital in Toronto, insisted “the vaccine is safe for racial and ethnic groups.”

Allen noted a U.S. study concluded only 35% of African-Americans were willing to get vaccinated and added Canadian numbers were “pretty close.”

“So, right now, to be very clear, based on the information that I’ve seen, there’s a major concern with vaccine hesitancy among the black population in Canada,” said Allen.
