The new measures, which the Trudeau Liberals say come in response to concerns around variants of the COVID-19 virus, will be implemented throughout various days in the next month.
As of February 15, 2021, all non-essential travellers arriving to Canada by land will be required to provide a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of prearrival. Essential workers will be exempt from the requirement.
As of February 22, travellers entering Canada at a land border will be required to take a COVID test on arrival, as well as towards the end of their 14 day quarantine.
For travellers arriving by air, as of Feb 22, all air non-essential travellers will be required to be tested on arrival before exiting the airport and another at the end of their quarantine period.
"Air travellers will also be required to reserve prior to departure to Canada, a three-night stay in a government-authorized hotel. Travellers will be required to stay at their hotel at their own cost while they await the result of their arrival test," said Hajdu, assuring that there will be a "number of hotels to choose from."
Costs for accommodation will vary by hotel.
