Gov. DeSantis to sue CDC for shutting down American businesses during pandemic

"Do you want one unelected bureaucracy to be able to have the power to indefinitely shut down a major industry in this country?”

On Wednesday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spoke on his early April announcement that he would be suing the Center for Disease Control for exceeding it's authority in closing American businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, specifically the cruise line industry that is vital to Florida ports.

"Do you want one unelected bureaucracy to be able to have the power to indefinitely shut down a major industry in this country?" said DeSantis, speaking on the continued stalling of allowing cruise ships to run again, and the avoidance of Florida due to DeSantis' ban on vaccine passports. "They do not have that authority to do it, thats why were suing them."

DeSantis pointed out that cruse ships avoiding Florida due to the vaccine passport ban would make no sense, seeing as many of the places people most commonly cruise to have higher covid rates and lower vaccination rates.

"Now here we are over a year later and there’s no end in sight. Now they say you can only cruise if you have 98% people show proof of vaccination, but that’s ridiculous," said DeSantis. "They’re cruising in other parts of the world where they don’t even have availability of vaccines yet, where they have much higher Covid than in the United States."

Discussing the overreach of the CDC, DeSantis said that the CDC is following the politics, not the science.

"This has implications for potentially any industry and look, with all due respect to the CDC, I mean if you look at some of the stuff that they’ve done on school openings, where they’re basically doing the teacher’s union’s bidding, when they say these kids should be masked in summer camp outdoors. I’m sorry, that’s not science, that’s politics."
