Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu teed off on Justin Trudeau’s critique on Tuesday about his country’s war against Hamas, saying the militant group is committing a “double war crime” by putting civilians’ lives at risk in Gaza.

“It is not Israel that is deliberately targeting civilians, but Hamas that beheaded, burned and massacred civilians in the worst horrors perpetrated on Jews since the Holocaust,” Netanyahu said Tuesday night in a post on X that tagged Trudeau’s account.

The Liberal prime minister took aim at Israel’s response to the deadly Oct. 7 Hamas attacks on its soil — when 1,200 people, including civilians, were killed and at least 240 people were taken hostage — by saying that its military must show “maximum restraint” to protect civilian life as fighting was taking place near Gaza’s largest hospital.

“The human tragedy that is unfolding in Gaza is heart-wrenching, especially the suffering we see in and around the Al Shifa hospital,” he said.
